In light of its RTX 3080’s stock being bought out by “malicious bots and resellers”, the GPU maker issued an apology for the oversight and poorly managed launch of its new card. The company explains that, due to the high demand for the card, it saw a tenfold increase in its traffic for the RTX 3080. Because of this surge of online traffic, NVIDIA inevitably encountered technical issues while trying to process orders. So, it did the only thing it could do: hit the pause button on its notification mail, which then led to the brand being unable to deliver the mass orders of RTX 3080 cards to their buyers on time.
To that end, NVIDIA has said that it is in the process of stocking up new cards and working to get them out to its over “100 million GeForce gamers” around the world. For those who aren’t up to speed with the situation, the majority of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3080 cards were snagged up during the surge in traffic by unscrupulous scalpers and resellers. These same individuals then proceeded to resell them online, but at prices far higher than what the card is worth.
As an example, a reseller allegedly based in the UAE had bought all of Zotac’s GeForce RTX 3080 Trinity graphics and then proceeded to sell each card at an outrageous price of US$50000 (~RM206900). (Source: NVIDIA)
