Oddly enough, the 2FA feature doesn’t seem to be a permanent implementation, with EGS saying that the requirement is scheduled to end on 21 May. Also, it doesn’t seem like it will be consistent; the platform says that it will “periodically” confirm your account and its credentials. EGS says that they are aware of the “minor inconvenience”, but finds it a necessary step to protect our accounts.
The timing of the EGS’ introduction of a 2FA does seem like a likely coincidence. Last week, Nintendo began urging its customers to activate their after 160000 Nintendo Network IDs (NNID) accounts were compromised. Of course, EGS denies its 2FA implementation of having any relation to that incident, and it most certainly doesn’t explain why it’s only for a limited time.
In any case, you’ll need to access your Epic Games Account settings in order to activate it. Specifically, it’s located in the Password and Security section, and you can choose to authenticate with an app, an SMS, or through email.
