Recently, it was announced that John Cena will be joining the cast of Fast & Furious 9, so when a fan casually suggested that Bautista should join the cast too, as a villain, one would assume that the six-time WWE/World Heavyweight Champion would either ignore it or take it as a compliment. After all, since Fast Five, the Fast & Furious franchise (which The Rock is a part of) has slowly become one of the biggest film franchises of all time, grossing over $US 5 billion at the global box office.
What nobody would’ve expected is Bautista throwing crazy shade at the franchise. The actor quote tweeted the fan’s comment and wrote:

The charm of these films is that they’re nothing but mindless action flicks that are over the top and completely ludicrous. But let’s be honest here. Dave Bautista isn’t exactly Daniel Day-Lewis, who shows up every now and then to act in a Paul Thomas Anderson art piece. This is the guy who acted in Hotel Artemis, Escape Plan 2: Hades and Bushwick, all of which are films which are huge bombs in the critics’ circle and made significantly less money than almost all the movies in the Fast & Furious franchise. There is, of course, the possibility that this could all just be a — to use a pro-wrestling term — “worked shoot”. A “worked shoot” is a term used to describe a wrestler seemingly going “off script” but actually doing so as a fully planned part of the show. So, Bautista’s shade may contain elements of how he really feels, but perhaps it’s exaggerated to create buzz and publicity that could bleed into the Fast & Furious storylines if he does end up getting cast as a villain in the movie. You’ll never know.
