In the franchise’s eighth entry, The Fate of the Furious, Charlize Theron played the villainous Cipher, a cyber-terrorist so ruthless, it made Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) join the good guys. Not only does Cipher kidnap Dominic Toretto’s kid, but she also murders the mother of the kid in cold blood. She was last seen jumping out of a plane with a parachute, before going off the grid. Helen Mirren’s return is less exciting, not because she isn’t a talented force — she’s one of the best actresses of all time. But her role in the eighth movie as Owen and Deckard Shaw’s mom was one dimensional and boring. Mirren will also be appearing in the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw later this year. John Cena’s character is still a mystery. However, seeing that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will not be starring in Fast & Furious 9, one can speculate that John Cena will be playing a police officer of sorts. Whatever the case, here’s to hoping he lays the Attitude Adjustment on Dominic Toretto. Fast & Furious 9 will be driving into cinemas in 2020.
